A community education initiative in Pune, Maharashtra reached 100 underprivileged children in June 2026. The program, run by Test NGO, provided free tutoring sessions in mathematics and science to students from Class 5 to Class 8.
The initiative began in January 2026 after a survey conducted by the NGO identified that 78 percent of children in the Hadapsar area were scoring below passing grades in core subjects. In response, the organization recruited 12 volunteer teachers from local colleges and set up three learning centres in community halls across the neighbourhood.
Each centre operated six days a week, offering two-hour sessions in the morning and evening to accommodate children from working families. By June 2026, attendance had grown from 34 students in the first week to 100 students by the end of the third month.
Priya Kamble, a Class 7 student from Hadapsar, said her mathematics scores improved from 38 percent to 74 percent over three months. Her mother, Sunita Kamble, confirmed that Priya now completes her homework independently.
The NGO plans to expand the program to two additional neighbourhoods in Pune by September 2026, targeting an additional 150 students.
